HMS Warrior Challenge 5K – 10K

Saturday, October 1, was a perfect morning to be outside, and there were about 100 people outside for the HMS Warrior Challenge 5K – 10K. Tom Orr and Coordinated School Health partnered to orchestrate the event. HHS Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) assisted with registration, as well as cheered for the runners/walkers when they crossed the finish line. HMS basketball cheerleaders handed water to runners and walkers along the race route, as well as cheered them on throughout the race.

Runners and walkers all the way from Montana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and of course … right here at home, turned out for a gorgeous morning of promoting good health. The purpose for the race was to encourage physical activity and fitness among our students and all student registration was free, as well as a free tee shirt and medal for all who completed the walk/run. Any profit that was made will go to purchase physical activity materials or equipment for the school.

As usual, our local businesses and residents are always there to support our activities. Haywood Middle School would like to send a very warm thank you to Patrick H. Mann, Jr., Banks Law Firm, First South Bank, the City of Brownsville, Jim McAdams and State Farm Insurance, Brownsville Family Medicine, Reagan’s Muffler, Dynamix, and UT Extension Office/Health Department 1305 Grant, and Walmart.
