TSU gives big to HHS

HAYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AWARDED FULL SCHOLARSHIPS

Tennessee State University (TSU) announced that any member of the 2022 graduating class of Haywood High School with at least a 3.0 grade point average is eligible for a full scholarship as long as the student applies and is admitted into the university.

Founded in 1912, TSU is a comprehensive, urban, co-educational, land-grant institution in Nashville, Tennessee.  It is a four-year, accredited HBCU school that offers nearly 40 programs of study on the undergraduate level.

TSU Senior Admissions Associate and Haywood High School alumnus, Cedric Tyus, was instrumental in providing this scholarship opportunity for the students in Haywood County.

“I was a graduate of Haywood High School in 2012, and I wanted to be able to bring this opportunity to my hometown,” he explained.

“This is only the second school in the state where we’ve offered this opportunity.”

While it is the second school in the state to receive this scholarship opportunity, it is the first rural high school to be given this financial arrangement in this manner.

Haywood High School counselor, Sarah Haynes, explained the importance of what this announcement means for students in Haywood County.

“This is a life-changing opportunity for our students.  To be able to receive a free college education at a quality school and not have any debt is priceless,” she said.

Students who apply and are admitted and granted the scholarship are not required to enroll in the university until they are ready to make a final decision on their academic future.  Students are encouraged to get their applications to TSU completed soon to take advantage of this opportunity.
