This years Haywood County Schools Accelerated Academic Academy (AAA) before- and after-school program’s focus has been on language arts. With the more rigorous state standards, the program’s instructors were charged with helping students improve their language arts test scores.
The program used small group instruction, lots of interactive technology, and hands-on activities with the students to help them achieve the school and district goals. In addition to the extra language arts tutoring, instructors provided homework help both before and after school. An after-school snack was provided to AAA students as well as bus transportation home. At the end of the year, AAA students from Haywood Elementary and Sunny Hill participated in a field trip to the Pink Palace museum, and the Haywood Junior High students went to the Memphis Zoo and had the opportunity to learn more about animal physiology. At Haywood High, AAA school students were provided extra tutoring in math and language arts and credit recovery opportunities so they could graduate with their class.
AAA before-school programs ran from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at all HCS schools. The after-school program hours were 3 to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
The 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant is federally funded.

•    499 students attended at least one day this year.
•    309 students attended over 30 days vs 181 last year.

•    22 Seniors and 2 Juniors have successfully recovered credits at HHS.

Advanced: 3 students Test A to 8 Test C
Proficient: 43 students Test A to 64 Test C
Basic: 179 students Test A to 172 Test C
Below Basic: 97 Students Test A to 60 Test C
•    21 CCLC program helped to fund the Save the Children bus transportation.
•    Added two buses to cut down the amount of time children spent on buses.
•    Added two after school staff members for tutoring gateway students.
