Grandparents Day 2021
HES celebrates the gift of grandparents
In honor of Grandparents’ Day, Haywood Elementary School hosted a drive-thru celebration last Friday. Doting grandparents arrived in droves, whether by car, truck or motorcycle, all donning big smiles, proud hearts and some even decorated their vehicles. Grandparents’ Day, observed nationally every September 12, is an opportunity to commemorate the uniquely special bond between grandparents and grandchildren. The now annual event was created last year out of necessity due to Covid, and according to Assistant Principal Elizabeth Lovell, “has grown to be one of the most popular events for the school.” Organizers said grandparents were backed up on North Grand in both directions awaiting their turn – some upwards of 45 minutes – to one of the designated driveways.
