HOSA students help with the Backpack Food Program

Once again the HOSA students in Mrs. Julie Taylor’s Health Sciences class at Haywood High School have partnered with Coordinated School Health to help with the Backpack Food Program, which sends food bags home with some 145 Haywood County School students each week. The food is delivered from Food Giant each Thursday and they do all the work!! They unpack the boxes, form an assembly line, fill the bags, count them into the big tubs that go to the schools, then load the car for delivery! “They have learned a lot about how many families need extra assistance and seen first-hand how the process works,” said Cindy Smith, Coordinated School Health Director. “They are a very dedicated and willing group of young ladies who have added a lot to this program, and HCS is very thankful to Miss Julie and her students for all they do.”
