January Haywood County School Bard Meeting
The January Haywood County Board of Education Meeting began in form with the Call to Order being followed by: Agendas, Financial Reports, Policies, and Proposals.
The Board voted and approved changes in: 6.309-Zero Tolerance Offenses and 6.411-Student Wellness, 6.600-Student Records.
The first section of New Business was Celebration of Haywood County Schools where Adonis Bond was honored and celebrated as he was welcomed into the 30+ Club. The 30+ Club is for students earning a 30 or higher on their American College Test (ACT). Congratulations Adonis! What an accomplishment!
Among other business: a bid proposal for Industrial Maintenance Equipment was approved and is grant funded; budget amendment were brought up for vote; a video was shown in consideration of new teaching techniques for reading skills and announcements were made concerning TSBA’s Legislative and Legal Institute being held at Double Tree Hotel in Nashville.
During the meeting the floor was handed over to Junior Board Members, Iverson Hines and Shaylen Reed where they brought up their concert of: Exam Exemption for perfect attendance vs. grades; more recognition for Beta Club; a freshman mentoring program; EEOG and a Day on the Hill; and their concerns about Art programs being over shadowed by the Tech programs. The Board took serious note of their concerns with an assurance that each would be addressed. They then discussed how previous concerns of the Junior Board members have been resolved.
The next School Board Meeting will be held on February 13th at 6pm at the Central Office.
