On January 24, at the annual Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce Banquet, Haywood Junior High School teacher Mary Jane Williams was announced as the Teacher of the Year. She is a Haywood County native, HHS graduate and holds a master’s degree from the University of Memphis.  She has taught at Haywood Junior High since 1987, and is currently teaching eighth grade Language Arts. She was selected Haywood County Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1995, 2005 and this year. She has been the youth Sunday School teacher at Allen Baptist church for many years, and has played the piano and organ at Allen Baptist Church since she was in the sixth grade. She has also helped with the choir at Allen for 36 years.
