Reading intervention is key at HCS
Reading – one of the most crucial elements of every child’s education – develops critical thinking skills and emotions; improves vocabulary, memory, analytical skills, writing skills, focus and concentration; builds confidence and globally broadens one’s horizons. Nobody recognizes the importance of reading more than Haywood County Schools. One essential tool the county uses to enhance students’ reading is intervention. At East Side Elementary, every student – regardless of proficiency level – spends their afternoons in reading intervention. Each teacher holds a small group to practice phonemes, graphemes, sentences and fluency. Pictured above, East Side third and fourth graders transition to their respective invention classes. According to Assistant Principal Marty Todd, “Our Wildcats are working hard to become strong learners and readers.”
