Signing Day ceremony celebrates two local athletes
On National Signing Day, Wednesday, February 5, Haywood High School seniors Markeston Douglas and Darion Williamson signed on to play football with the Division 1 school, Florida State. Both Tomcats officially agreed to become Seminoles when they begin their collegiate career next fall at a ceremony held in the library of Haywood High School.
“I always say, scholarships are earned. They are not just given out to anybody,” said Tomcat head football coach Chris Smith. He encouraged the boys to carry the drive they had as Tomcats when they take this next step. “Bring the gas in everything you do. Fully commit to anything you want to accomplish in your life. Don’t look for shortcuts or the path of least resistance – you’ll apply breaks to whatever dream you’re chasing and not get there … Continue to think big. Although it may sound insane to others, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Don’t let success get to your head. Continue the work ethic that got you there no matter where you are. The more success you have, the more people will try to knock you down. Keep your circle small and climb the hill with those people.”
