HCS Announces New Head Football Coach
Haywood County Schools is excited to announce Josh Puckett, as the new Head Football Coach for Tomcats Football. Coach Puckett is a former TSSAA State Championship head coach, winning the Class 1A title at Lake Co in 2019. Puckett brings years of head coaching experience with him (Lake Co 2013-2019 and Shelbyville 2020-2022). This past season, Coach Puckett served as the offensive line and defensive line coach during the 2022 football season. Haywood’s offense put up big numbers due to Puckett’s explosive offensive line, scoring 49.6 points and averaging 482 yards per game. In addition, all starting offensive lineman earned football scholarships. Puckett is from Greenfield, TN where he graduated from Greenfield High School, and continued his education at The University of Tennessee at Martin where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Puckett understands the importance of building strong relationships with his players and the community while having a disciplined culture that will build on our winning traditions.
Coach Puckett is married to Erin Puckett and has two sons, Campbell and Cayden.
