Valedictorian
Elliot Garrett received the Valedictorian Award for having the highest scholastic average in the Distinguished Scholar Program. Elliot has maintained a GPA of 101.76 during his four years in high school.

Salutatorian
Felescia Sanders received the Salutatorian Award for having the second highest scholastic average in the Distinguished Scholar Program. Felescia has maintained a GPA of 100.34 for her four years in high school.

Joe T. Naylor Award
Elliot Garrett will also receive the Joe T. Naylor Award for having an ACT composite score of 30 This award is given to the boy in the senior class with the highest ACT score.

Ed Thompson Award
Mary-Wyatt Pettigrew will receive the Ed Thompson Award for having an ACT composite score of 32. This award is given to the girl in the senior class with the highest ACT score.

Thirty-Plus Club Members
Two of our graduates have scored 30 or higher on the ACT and are members of the Thirty-Plus Club. Mary-Wyatt Pettigrew and Elliot Garrett, qualified and Superintendent Russell will present these students their purple and white cords indicating this high academic achievement.

Outstanding Career-Technical Student Awards
Mrs. Pam Diebold will present the awards for outstanding work in the Career-Technical programs.
The CTE Outstanding Health Science student is Felescia Sanders. The CTE Outstanding Agriculture Science student is Trevor Ferguson. The CTE Outstanding Culinary Arts student is Areionia Sangster. The CTE Outstanding Marketing student is Taylor Ann King.

Trevor Ferguson and Areionia Sangster received the Outstanding Career-Technical Scholar Awards. The recipients of this award were chosen by the Career and Technical teaching staff and administration.

DAR Good Citizenship Award
Mary Ashton Barden received the DAR Good Citizenship Award.

DAR Award for Outstanding Junior ROTC Cadet
Aaliyah Haynes received the ROTC Cadet of the Year Award.

Machining Credit Hours
The following four students have completed more than 100 credit hours leading to certification in Machining from Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Mrs. Pam Diebold, Director of Career and Technical Education for Haywood County Schools, presented them with their certificates: Larry Brooks – 105 credit hours, Matthew Iglesias – 115 credit hours, Elijah Scifres – 120 credit hours, and Jonathan Long – 115 credit hours.

Recognition of Seniors Entering Military Service
Keisha Pruitt has joined the United States Air Force. Also joining the United States Air Force are Alexis Walker, Mahogany Green, and Deondra Johnson. Joining the Marines is Eric Rogers. Joining the National Guard is Pedric Raney.

Tennessee Scholars
The Tennessee Scholars program is a business-led initiative endorsed by the Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Tennessee Business Roundtable, and many other education coalitions across the state. To become Tennessee Scholars, students must complete a rigorous academic and technical course of study that exceeds the minimum requirements for a diploma. Additionally, they must meet other criteria including at least 80 hours of community service. It speaks well of Haywood High School and of our senior class that 31 of our graduates meet all the requirements for Tennessee Scholar status, and that they collectively have performed more than 2,500 hours of community service during the past four years. REDI College Access Awards Total for 2 Years = $17,600
Our community participates in the REDI College Access Program. Mrs. Emily Carpenter, Haywood High REDI Coordinator, presented the Haywood County-City of Brownsville Scholarships in the amount of $400 each semester to these students to attend post-secondary institutions for the 2017-2018 academic year. These scholarships are renewable for the 2018-2019 term.

HOPE Scholarships — a possible $1,470,000 over 4 years
The State of Tennessee provides HOPE Scholarships for students who meet certain academic requirements and who will continue their education at a postsecondary school in Tennessee. The following 98 seniors meet those academic criteria and are eligible for scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,500 per year, pending approval from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation. Other students may qualify as their application process is completed.

Students who have an ACT score of 29 or higher and who have a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher qualify for the General Assembly Merit Scholarship in addition to the HOPE Scholarship. One of our graduates – Elliot Garrett – meets these qualifications and will receive General Assembly Merit Scholarship, pending approval from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation.
