Mary C. Sharpe Wins District Singles Title; Receives Scholarship To Millsaps College

Mary C. Sharpe signed Tuesday, May 6, to accept an academic scholarship from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She will also play tennis at Millsaps. Mary C. is the number one singles player on the HHS girls’ tennis team and has gone undefeated this year. She won two matches against the number one player at Trinity Christian Academy on Tuesday night to win the District 15 A-AA singles title. She was also named the District Player of the Year. She has competed on the State level for two years.
She is in the HHS Distinguished Scholars program and is a member of the HHS Beta and French clubs, the Show Choir, the Drama Club and has participated in the school musicals. She is also a member of HOSA and participates in the Backpack program that provides meals for younger students on the weekends. Mary C. is a member of the First United Methodist Church Youth Group and has participated in mission work.
She is the daughter of Mary Ann and John Sharpe, Jr., and the granddaughter of Mary Louise Gillespie and Carolyn and John Sharpe, all of Brownsville.
