Mrs. Harwell is currently serving as a kindergarten teacher at Anderson Early Childhood Center. She has 32 years of experience, all of which have been in Haywood County. She has served as the lead kindergarten teacher many times and contributed greatly to the skills’ checklist and the curriculum that is currently being used by all kindergarten teachers. Reading and math small groups ensure that all of her students learn at their highest level. By tracking her students’ progress through portfolios, she is able to adjust instruction to meet the needs of her students. Test scores indicate that this is an effective strategy. Mrs. Harwell is also in charge of Anderson’s scarecrow display for the community scarecrow contest on Brownsville’s court square.
