HCS Nutrition Director speaks to students
Mrs. Jarratt’s Nutrition Across the Lifespan Class at Haywood High School had the chance to learn about the job of the School Nutrition Director and how the cafeteria at Haywood High School works. Alison Pyron was a guest speaker for this class and offered valuable information about careers in the nutrition industry and especially about her job as School Nutrition Director for Haywood County Schools. She gave examples of her job functions and explained how her job is also to provide an environment that supports healthy food habits of students while maintaining program integrity, fiscal accountability, and customer satisfaction.
The students were also given a tour of the cafeteria and were allowed to taste test a new item which is being added to the school lunch menu, chicken sliders. Students were surprised to hear that together all the school system’s cafeterias served over 740,000 student meals in one school year.
