Health sciences students help with screenings
Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) in the Health Science class in the Haywood High School Career and Technical Department assist Coordinated School Health with student health screenings in all schools. They recently assisted with screening East Side’s fourth-grade health screenings, which is required by the State of Tennessee. Each year School Health Services performs health screenings on students in kindergarten, second, fourth, sixth, eighth, and ninth-grade wellness classes.
Data is recorded and sent in to the State Department of Coordinated School Health to be combined with statewide health screening results. This information is very useful in determining how our students are progressing in our effort to reduce childhood obesity in Tennessee. The information is very important and these very responsible HOSA students take their participation very seriously. What a great way for students to learn and perform an important service at the same time.
