HES Music Students Entertain Sugar Creek Residents
Haywood Elementary School music teacher Patricia Gaietto decided in the fall to let the third graders play recorders for their spring music program this year, and she asked for donations to help cover the cost of some of the recorders. The residents at Sugar Creek Retirement Center pooled their money to make a donation, and then several of the residents delivered the gift to Mrs. Gaietto’s class. As a way to show their appreciation, 40 newly trained recorder musicians were chosen to go to Sugar Creek and entertain the residents.
And there’s more. The music class was in need of music stands, and the following local businesses sponsored those stands: Brownsville Arts Council, Reagan’s Muffler, Banks Law Firm, Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, Brownsville Dairy Queen, Backyard Bar-B-Que, and Lee Berry State Farm. Jan’s Trophy and Engraving donated the plaques and engraving that are on the back of each stand. Also, an anonymous donor purchased a music stand in honor of the Sugar Creek residents.
It was a collaboration of the community for children to learn how to appreciate the arts, play recorders and give back to the community. Kudos to the student musicians and Patricia Gaietto!
