HHS choirs rock the stage in Florida
By Mary-Wyatt Pettigrew
The Haywood High School Show Choir, known as Voices of Haywood, and Girls Ensemble, recognized as Haywood Harmonies, competed in the World-strides OnStage Competition on April 1 at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The Show Choir sang a “High School Musical” medley, and the Girls ensemble sang a cappella versions of Sweet Dreams, Just the Way You Are/Just a Dream medley, and Bring Him Home. The Show Choir placed third, and the Girls Ensemble placed second in the competition. Both groups were under the direction of Dr. Melinda Geodecke, the music teacher at Haywood High School.
Anne Marie Sceals, a senior at HHS, had the distinguished honor of winning the Ovation Award, the highest musical award given to the most outstanding student musician. While in Orlando, the students enjoyed the weekend at Universal Studios, celebrating their job well done.
