HHS Library Club visits McWherter Library at U of M
On March 20 the Haywood High School Library Club took 32 students on its fourth annual visit to the McWherter Library at the University of Memphis. Librarian Julie Dahlhauser collaborated with Dr. Pam Dennis, UM Learning Commons Coordinator, to arrange a tour of the various departments of the library. Students learned about the power of accurate statistics as they toured the Government Documents Repository. In the Special Collections room they saw pictures and floor plans of Haywood Elementary School from when it was built in the 1950s and of College Hill Center from the 1920s. Dr. Dennis presented a lesson on college-level expectations for student research. Along the way, the group met up with some HHS alumni who are current UM students. Chaperones were Mrs. Dahlhauser and REDI Coordinator Abby Nichols. Special thanks to the Gear Up program for providing the bus.
