Haywood High School seniors on Wednesday, April 23, experienced what it would be like to be a part of or know someone who was injured or killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. For the 15th year, Captain Barry Diebold of the Brownsville Police Department organized the community to help him present a Mock Crash to bring home the message, “Don’t Drink and Drive.”

Joining Captain Diebold in the event again this year was Channel 5 in Memphis Meteorologist Dave Brown who brought realism to the mock event. His daughter, granddaughter and unborn grandson were killed by a drunk driver in 1997, and he has been sharing his story and speaking out against drinking and driving ever since. Reports are that there wasn’t a dry eye in the young audience. And Captain Diebold expanded the program this year to speak out against texting and any other distracted driving practices.

Supporting him in this production were the Brownsville-Haywood County Ambulance Authority and emergency personnel, the Brownsville Fire Department and firemen, Lea and Simmons Funeral Home, Brownsville-Haywood County Parks and Recreation Department, Young’s Wrecker Service, Duncan’s Wrecker Service, and Hospital Wing/Helicopter Medevac Services, along with members of the HHS
