Seniors celebrate post-HHS plans

On May 6, GEAR UP TN hosted College and Career Celebration Day for Haywood High School seniors to celebrate the students who have committed to furthering their education after high school.

In a special school-wide celebration in the gym, seniors were announced and recognized by the post-secondary learning institutions, military branches or types of work they plan to pursue after graduation. Sticking to tradition, each student then symbolically penned their name to a large banner that was sectioned off by individual schools, military branches and work fields. Seniors and staff throughout the district sported their college colors for the celebration.

HHS GEAR UP site coordinator Jackie Whitten shared, “If students want to earn a two-year degree, a four-year degree, a certificate or industry-recognized credentials, or enlist in the military, we wanted to celebrate them! Their decisions have long-lasting impacts for themselves, their families and their communities. We want our students to know we support them!”

Haywood County’s GEAR UP TN created the College and Career Celebration Day in 2013. This year’s event was live-streamed on Facebook and can be viewed on the Haywood High School and Haywood County GEAR UP TN Facebook pages.
