Students read poetry at Open Mic event
The Haywood High School Library was the site of an Open Mic Poetry Reading on September 8, sponsored by the Haywood Arts Council and the Delta Heritage Center. It was an event that was in line with the Haywood County Schools HaywoodReads! initiative.
Kesha Burton, 2016 HHS graduate, served as emcee, and everyone was welcome to share favorite poems. People brought their lunch to the library and stayed as long as they could. “We had a student from the REACH Academy who read an amazing poem he had written,” said Librarian Julie Dahlhauser. It was a powerful experience, and we plan to do it again in November.”
Among those participating were Keunte Rudd, English teacher Elizabeth Guth, Madison Campbell, Raven Harville, and ESL teacher Hannah Chapman.
