Symphony Timberlake earns gold medal at National FCCLA conference

Symphony Timberlake, along with her FCCLA advisor, Mrs. Denita Jarratt, traveled to Nashville in July to participate in the 2013 FCCLA National Leadership Conference. Symphony earned a gold medal in the national STAR Event competition. She competed in the National Programs in Action, senior level event. Her project featured a campaign against distracted driving at Haywood High School.
The conference took place July 7 to 11 at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center, and was attended by more than 7,000 FCCLA members from around the country. The theme of the conference, “Discover Your Voice,” formed the basis of opportunities for members to grow as leaders, to network with other members from around the country and to listen to inspiring motivational speakers. The theme also challenged students to confront issues pertinent to teenagers with essential skills gained through leadership development and participation in competitive “STAR” events.
Involvement in FCCLA helps increase self-discipline in both school and extracurricular life. It builds communication skills and improves the creative thinking process. This program is part of the HHS Career and Technical Department.
