It’s always sunny on the hill
“Wonderful things are happening on The Hill,” exclaimed Instructional Facilitator Sharon Clark as she passionately spoke of all the happenings at Sunny Hill Intermediate School. The Anderson Avenue facility has served in varying capacities since its closure in May of 2012 as an elementary school, but most excitingly, it re-opened at the start of the 2020-2021 school year to house all Haywood County fifth and sixth graders. Dubbed by current staff and administrators as ‘The Hill’, the pride and enthusiasm radiating from this establishment is contagious and perfectly exemplifies the school’s new slogan, “It’s always sunny on the hill!” The educators and support staff are tackling the new school year with an infectious zeal and passion.
Last week, the entire staff was gifted matching t-shirts donning the phrase ‘Welcome to the Hill’. “The shirts represent the unity of our educators,” shared Clark. “We have a new administrative staff, and we’ve combined teachers from all walks of life (both new and veteran educators) who have a heart and passion for students. Together, along with our support staff, families, community helpers and other stakeholders, we are committed to making this year a wonderful year in keeping with our hashtag #sunnyonthehill.”
The building itself received a facelift over the summer. Principal Alex Aitken, joined by staff members and volunteers from Teknor Apex, worked tirelessly throughout the summer break painting, cleaning, organizing and pressure washing.
Exciting things are happening at all Haywood County Schools. Stay tuned to the Brownsville Press, the HCS website and each school’s social media outlets for all the latest happenings.
