Book characters come to life
Haywood Elementary and East Side held their annual book character parades on Friday, October 29. Students, teachers and administrators dressed up as characters from their favorite books. The costumed crew then lined the driveways at their respective schools for a reverse parade, meaning students stayed stationary, while family, friends and community supporters, led by local police and fire – with lights and sirens blaring – drove by to see and support the festive fashions. The much-anticipated tradition gives students a way to celebrate Halloween at school while allowing teachers a way to make it educational – a win-win for everyone! Students at both schools also enjoyed in-house trunk-or-treats, loads of candy, crafts and most importantly, tons of fun.
