HHS seniors reach TN Promise goal
Haywood High School’s diligent commitment to the post-secondary success of its students, whether it’s workforce development or college preparation, was evident last week when the entire senior class reached 100 percent completion of the TN Promise application. According to Ayers Foundation College Access and Success Counselor Sara Benard, “Reaching 100 percent completion for TN promise at Haywood High School is a huge accomplishment! This not only shows the interest we have in post-secondary education by students at our school, but it also shows the support that our schools offer for continuing education after high school. So many students miss out on this awesome opportunity because they don’t take the time to fill out the application.”
Not only did seniors meet the school’s goal completion, they did so nearly six weeks prior to the state’s official deadline. HHS senior guidance counselors, Ayers counselors and Gear Up counselors began working toward this goal prior to the start of the new school year.
TN Promise is both a scholarship and mentoring program focused on increasing the number of students that attend college. By completing the TN promise application, students receive a last-dollar scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition and mandatory fees not covered by the Pell grant, the Hope Scholarship, or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award. Students may use the proceeds of the TN Promise at any of Tennessee’s community colleges, colleges of applied technology or other eligible institutions offering an associate degree program.
