Mission Statement
The mission of the Haywood County Alternative Learning Center is to help all students learn and improve their talents and capabilities so they will develop into productive and successful citizens; therefore the students will become learners for life.
Vision Statement: The vision of HCS Alternative Learning Center is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills and discipline necessary for living and participating in a democratic society. As an educational institution we seek to foster an environment in which each student is afforded meaningful learning experiences. The Alternative Learning Center seeks to challenge each student as an individual so he/she will be empowered to take charge of their lives. Under ideal circumstances, each student will develop a spirit of inquiry, a respect for knowledge, and the ability to thing logically, independently, and creatively. Consequently, this will be reflected with increased student performance on academic assessments, decreased negative involvement with the courts and increase adult basic skills.
The primary goals of the Alternative learning center are:
To serve as a learning alternative for students who have had difficulty adjusting to the regular school environment due to disciplinary reasons. The ALC serves students in grade 7-12.
To provide students with a “last chance” opportunity to modify their behavior as well future decision-making and to return to their regular school.
To help students continue on the path toward a high school graduation.
To help students find success by providing them with both academic and therapeutic interventions as needed.
