“Warrior Walk” To Improve Student Health At HMS
Recently Haywood Middle School held the first “Warrior Walk.” Warrior Walk is an idea developed by Principal Yvette Blue to increase physical activity and improve student health in Haywood Middle School students. Coordinated School Health is partnering with Ms. Blue to provide the services of local fitness trainer and manager of Flex Fitness, “Q” Marquis Tyus, who will be on site every Tuesday and Thursday to lead and conduct the walks and whatever fitness activities evolve as the year progresses.
Coordinated School Health and the Health Department Outreach Educator will be on hand to assist with the walks. Each lunch shift will have the opportunity to walk with Q for the second half of their lunch period. Each student who completes 10 walks and gets 10 punches in their “Warrior Walks” credit card, will earn a free “Jean Day” at school. The pictures are students in the eighth grade only. The other two groups were just as large!
