East Side Students Learn From “Black Violin” Field Trip To The Orpheum Threatre
On February 27, all 480 students at East Side went on a field trip to the Orpheum Theat in Memphis to listen to two young African-Americans play violins in a way nobody can imagine! Ms. Lynn Holt, music teacher, had been discussing the independent group, “Black Violin,” in her classes. Their music is a blend of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B, and even bluegrass. Wil B and Kev Marcus are classically trained viola and violin players who first met playing in the high school orchestra in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wil says, “Black Violin is all about overcoming your obstacles and staying strong.” The students and teachers truly enjoyed the concert and even stood up and danced to the great music!
