During the month of February, classes in several disciplines studied Black History at Haywood High School. Mrs. Holly Chilcutt and Mrs. Melanie Dotson’s English III classes did formal research papers on great Americans; Mr. Jamie Elliott’s Spanish classes made posters of famous Black Hispanic people; and Mrs. Julie Taylor’s health occupations classes researched African American contributions to medicine.

 

At the end of the month, teachers brought students’ work to display in the library. Also featured were Black History posters from Major Delois Dailey’s ROTC classes, sculptures from Mrs. Jennifer Friedman’s art classes, and a slideshow presentation from English IV classes featuring Black poets. Mrs. Barbara Wellington and Mrs. Alexandria Hay’s classes brought a display of pictures and biographies of individuals of achievement from Michael Jackson to Michelle Obama.

 

The display was featured in the library from February 25 to March 8, where individuals and classes were invited to browse through the exhibit. Pictured are students from Ms. Tarsha Miller-Mans’s English IV class who contributed to the Black Poets project, with the slideshow above them.
