Two FCS students “shadow” at Dairy Queen
Brittany Bradford and Xavier Genesy, students in Mrs. Denita Jarratt’s class in the HHS Family and Consumer Sciences Department, recently participated in a job-shadowing experience at the Brownsville Dairy Queen with Mrs. Pam Stephens. Starting at 8 a.m. and working until after 3 p.m., they received the full experience of working at and owning a business in the food service industry.
They learned about everything from unloading trucks, putting away stock, taking orders, putting orders together, and learning the clock-in and clock-out process. On the business side they learned about counting and balancing the money drawers, completing the necessary paperwork, the process for ordering supplies, and setting up schedules for the workers. They also learned about the cost of maintenance in owning your own business as well as the difference between owning a franchised business verses a non-franchised business.
