An Eye-Opener for HHS Students
Each year ninth-grade Wellness students take part in a video and presentation about the responsibilities accompanying parenting children as teens. In 2017, 56 babies were born to teen parents in Haywood County.
As parents, regardless of age, they are responsible for the financial care of that baby. Attorney Jennifer Scott, with the District Attorney General’s office, gives her time to present a very factual video on teen parent responsibilities, then gives very sobering information about what happens to fathers … and mothers, who neglect their responsibility. Coordinated School Health, under the direction of Cindy Smith, along with Jennifer Scott and PE teachers Catherine Hamilton and John Wilson were partners in this effort.
