Health screenings
Haywood High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) students will be conducting student health screenings again this year. Each year they assist Coordinated School Health in providing required hearing, vision, height, weight, BMI, and blood pressure screenings for students in grades 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9th grade Wellness classes. Kindergarten is done the first week of school, so they aren’t able to help with those.
Students learn how to operate the machines that will test all these areas, then practice on each other and other students in the Career and Tech building before going into the schools. They assist the health coordinator and school nurses, as well as Elise Gillespie with the health department, who is part of the screening team. School Health Services is lucky to have such a great partnership with HCS Career and Tech and the health science class of students who take this responsibility very seriously.
