Third-grade students in Ms. Essary, Ms. Oliphant, and Ms. Hardin’s classes performed research and modeled the components of the solar system. The activity was a differentiated project the students completed at home. The students had the choice of creating 3D posters or models. To enrich the students’ learning, they could even create a scaled model to depict their true distance from the sun. The students also had to research the planets and include facts about each planet. This is a state-tested skill.
