HES students make “tasty” turkeys
There were lots of turkeys at Haywood Elementary before Thanksgiving when the Haywood Extended Learning Program (HELP) third graders made and ate them! Coordinated School Health brought a cute healthy snack/reading lesson for students to read, make and eat. The story/poem was 5 Silly Turkeys, provided by one of our great partners, the Family Resource Center. After reading the poem, they made turkeys out of apples, muffins, raisins, and carrots. They learned the vitamins that are in those foods and what part of the body they help. Each student was given a copy of the poem to take home and read to his or her brothers and sisters. Maybe they will make fruit and vegetable turkeys at home during Thanksgiving!
