HHS Art students tour Memphis College of Art

Haywood County GEAR UP TN took HHS art teacher Mrs. Jennifer Friedman’s class on October 28 for a tour of the Memphis College of Art, a four-year institution founded in 1936. Students learned about the various programs offered at the college, including photography, sculpture, metals, graphic design, and digital media. Students were inspired by the presentation of John Harlan Norris’s exhibition of “Cons and Pros,” a part of his new portrait series relating to the daily roles and occupations of workers. Tour guides from the college explained cost of attendance, the facilities, housing and campus life. GEAR UP students met some of the faculty, saw some of the students working in their classes, and viewed the many pieces of artwork on display at the college.
