HHS Places Second In State Academic Decathlon

Members of the Haywood High School Academic Decathlon team recently completed state-level competition, winning the second-place trophy, six individual plaques, and 37 medals. In addition, the HHS team won the right to compete online nationally in the medium-size school division. This is the second year in a row that the Haywood High Academic Decathlon team has placed second and qualified for national competition.

Victoria Ramirez – Copper Medals in Music and Art

Fourth Highest Individual Score – Varsity Division

Silvestre Morales – Copper Medals in Economics and Social Science

Fifth Highest Individual Score – Scholastic Division

Fourth Highest Individual Score – Honors Division

Placing first in the state was Madison Academic Magnet High School of Jackson.  Third place went to Liberty Technology Magnet High School of Jackson.  Seymour High School placed fourth, and Mt. Juliet High School placed fifth.

This is the thirtieth year of Academic Decathlon competition in Tennessee, and the thirtieth year for the HHS team to qualify.  All students on the HHS team scored in the top ten in their divisions on every test this year.

The HHS team and their coaches, Miss Glynn Bridgewater and Mr. John Thomas, express their appreciation to all who have supported the team and helped them to prepare for competition this year.
