HMS History Club field trip
On Wednesday, November 16, the Haywood Middle School History Club took a field trip to Union University and Pinson Mounds Archeological Park. At Union the students were taken on a tour of the Library and were allowed access to the University Archives. Dr. Jenny Manasco, the Library Archivist, spoke with the students about preserving historical artifacts and shared some artifacts from the University’s collection. Students viewed and interacted with 100-year-old clothing, banners, and yearbooks; in addition they were able to flip through books that date back to the 12th Century. An admission counselor from Union University also stopped by to talk with the students. After leaving Union the History Club traveled to Pinson Mounds where they viewed the Visitors Museum and climbed 72 feet to the top of the tallest mound.
