HMS science students learn to use the scientific method

001

Students in Mr. Bontrager’s seventh-grade science class at Haywood Middle School are learning how to work the scientific method. In this lab the students asked the question: “How many drops of water can fit on the head of a penny?” They then formed a hypothesis and made a prediction of how many drops would fit. The photos are of the students as they work the experiment to either prove or disprove their hypothesis. After collecting the data and writing a short observation they offered a written conclusion. All of the students were surprised at their results. Most believed that the penny would hold only a few drops, but the actual number was much higher with several teams reaching over 60 drops! “We will utilize the scientific method throughout the year and years to come,” said Mr. Bontrager.
