HMS students earn recognition
Pictured are Drew McBride, Elizabeth Kirby and Ann-Wesley Banks.
Three Haywood Middle School students recently qualified for state recognition based on their scores in the Duke University TIP 7th Grade Talent Search program. This program identifies academic strengths, develops abilities and interests and celebrates achievements of the students. These students must take either the ACT or SAT as an above-level test. This allows students to have greater insight into their abilities and it gives them the opportunity to preview a college entrance exam.
The students who were recognized are Elizabeth Kirby, Ann-Wesley Banks, and Drew McBride. AnnWesley Banks and Drew McBride, along with Chaoyue Yuan, were invited to participate in Duke University’s Academy for Summer studies. Also, Elizabeth Kirby was invited to participate in Duke University’s Center for Summer Studies.
