Mock Crash Sends “Don’t Drink And Drive” Message
Haywood High School seniors on Wednesday, April 6, experienced what it would be like to be a part of or know someone who was injured or killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. For the 17th year, Brownsville Police Chief Barry Diebold organized the community to help him present a Mock Crash to bring home the message, “Don’t Drink and Drive.”
Joining Chief Diebold in the event again this year was Channel 5 in Memphis retired Meteorologist Dave Brown who brought realism to the mock event. His daughter, granddaughter and unborn grandson were killed by a drunk driver in 1997, and he has been sharing his story and speaking out against drinking and driving ever since.
Supporting him in this production were the Brownsville Police Department, the Brownsville-Haywood County Ambulance Authority and emergency personnel, the Brownsville Fire Department and firemen, Lea and Simmons Funeral Home, Brownsville-Haywood County Parks and Recreation Department, Young’s Wrecker Service, Andy Cooper Sound and Hospital Wing/Helicopter Medivac Services, along with members of the HHS Drama Department.
