Students help with Backpacks
“Haywood High HOSA students are participating in the Haywood County School’s Backpack food program for the third year. Since the object of the Backpack food program is to provide food to students who may not have enough to eat over the weekend, and the objective of the Health Occupations classes are to learn occupations that will improve people’s health, it is a very successful natural fit. HOSA students assist with the whole backpacking process. They unpack the boxes, sort the food and set up an assembly line, pack the food bags, and then count the bags into tubs that will be delivered by the School Health Coordinator to the schools, where the guidance counselors distribute them to the correct students. School Health Services is very grateful for their help in making the program a lot easier for everyone!”
