Elementary schools celebrate Dr. Seuss
Silly socks, crazy hats, mismatched clothing and pajamas were the apparel of choice for many students and teachers at local elementary schools last week and this week. The occasion was national Read Across America Day, more commonly known as Dr Seuss Day, celebrated annually on March 2. The purpose of the holiday is to motivate children to read…while having loads of fun in the process. Anderson Early Childhood Center, Haywood Elementary School and East Side Elementary School hosted class parties, book and character parades, popcorn parties, treats and prizes were gifted to children and each day had a designated themed dress code or costume option. In the words of Dr. Seuss himself, “It is fun to have fun but you have to know how,” and Haywood County Schools definitely know how!
